Happy 10-years dating anniversary to the love of my life!
I could have never imagined living the life that we live now, or all the things we went through to get here.
For those of you who haven’t known us long, here’s a summary:
We were only 15 when we met in high school, and started dating as little 16 year olds.
After dating for just over a month, we jumped into long distance for three months over the summer. The messaging app Kik and the video-calling site Oovoo were our JAM that summer! Anyone else remember those?
After that summer, we were together for all of our junior year of high school, then jumped back into off-and-on long distance for the remainder of our high school days.
We went to separate colleges (which I highly recommend, as difficult as it was) where we grew individually and yet somehow also together. We were long distance and saw each other once every three months, usually for about a week each visit.
After graduating, Marcus moved overseas for work, which added time zones (about a 6 hour difference) into the mix. For the next 3 years I visited him twice a year, and we tried to meet up over the summers when he was back in the States.
In July 2018, he proposed, 8 years after we started dating. Since he was leaving soon for work and I wanted to go with him, we had a super small ceremony and got married that August.
We spent an amazing year in Spain together, and then had a “real” wedding this past July!
As difficult as our journey was, it was so worth it; long distance forced us to communicate well and effectively, create an incredibly strong bond, and value every moment together.
I can’t imagine moving across the world for anyone else, and I thank God for him and the life we’re building together.
